And this was the moment everything changed…
It was a Friday evening in the fall of 2019. I was sitting in my windowless office at a military base, wrapping up yet another never-ending workday as a marketing director. My to-do list was still a mile long, but I was completely exhausted. I checked my bank account to see if I’d gotten paid before heading out — Yep… there was my direct deposit. A whopping $1,000. Yay.
I stared at the screen, overwhelmed by the weight of my credit card debt and the sinking realization that this path wasn’t sustainable. I had the skills, the passion, and the drive—what if I just did this on my own?
What started as a project to help my local businesses recover from Category 5 Hurricane Michael quickly turned into something much bigger. I was helping entrepreneurs far beyond my own backyard, and for the first time, I saw what was possible.
So, I took the leap. I bet on myself. And I haven’t looked back since.
Turns out, I was never meant for the corporate path.
Despite having been a badass MySpace coder back in my middle school days, I never even considered a career in marketing or web design. I loved being creative, which is probably pretty obvious when I tell you that I’ve studied five different instruments and lived my life through musicals growing up.
And as a (young) adult, I dabbled in everything—restaurants, retail, banking. I even chased my dream of breaking into the music business in Nashville (Yes, I have a degree in songwriting! Yes, it’s real!). On the side, I ended up falling into some projects that involved marketing and web design, which ultimately led me to working in a marketing office for the Air Force.
Still, stepping fully into entrepreneurship wasn’t easy. Imposter syndrome hit hard, and I constantly questioned if I was making the right choice. But I leaned into my intuition, trusted my faith, and did the work.
And spoiler alert—it paid off.
So I’m sure it would shock the pants off of you when I tell you that I took a full-time corporate marketing job in 2022, even though I had a thriving business of my own.
That season of my life needed the stability from that opportunity, and for almost three years, I worked the ins and outs of marketing luxury products. I learned a ton, tried and tested some unique tactics, and established a successful marketing campaign for a multi-million dollar business with content, email marketing and more.
And then I got laid off.
Yet in that moment, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and my prayers had been answered because for months I felt so out of place and was constantly feeling the pull to go back to my own business full time.
It also just proves my theory that there is no “safe job” and your best bet is to just bet on yourself.
Now, I get to help business owners like you fall back in love with their businesses, simplify their marketing, and build a brand that truly works for them.
